YouTube is a popular video hosting and sharing service that was purchased by Google in 2006. The service lets users view and upload video files. In addition to hosting videos, the service lets users rate videos, add comments, and subscribe to their favorite producers.
YouTube allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers large and small. YouTube is a Google company.
One of the reasons YouTube has been so popular is because it fosters a sense of community. You can not only view videos, but you can also rate and comment on videos. Some users even respond with video commentary.
This community atmosphere has even created Internet video stars, including mentions in magazines and television appearances. One popular video blogger, "lonelygirl15" was revealed to be a fictional character played by actress Jessica Rose.
YouTube is where eyeballs are. In fact YouTube is now where over a billion sets of eyeballs are every single month. The vast majority of those eyeballs belong to what Google & Nielsen are now calling the ‘C Generation’. The C Generation is supposedly a state of mind and is representative of those that ‘care deeply about creation, curation, connection and community.’
The C Generation is not YouTube’s only audience. All demographics are now consuming video online at growing rates and primarily on YouTube.
